Friends of Broadwater
FRIENDS OF BROADWATER (PTA)
Registered Charity Number: 1162453
Following the AGM on Thursday 10 October 2024 the Friends of Broadwater are no longer able to operate as we have no successor for the role of chairperson.
There is one last chance to keep the Friends from having to disband. A meeting has been organised for THURSDAY 7 NOVEMBER (venue to be confirmed) for anyone who might be thinking of volunteering to come along and find out more. There’ll be an opportunity to ask the outgoing chair and other committee members any questions you might have.
Two wonderful volunteers are in post for the treasurer and secretary roles and they hope that there are one or two people out there happy to join them (we’ve had co-chairs in the past and this works very well) so that the charity can continue to support the school and our children.
In the event that no new chair(s) can be found the charity will have to close. This means no more fundraising events or support for the school (raffles, refreshments at school events such as Christmas concert and the school production, summer party, challenge week activities, transport costs for school trips etc). Last year the Friends provided vital support to the school by funding the new courtyard garden and outdoor stage, a new PA system for the hall, foreign language plays and more.
Please email friends@broadwater.surrey.sch.uk if you’re interested and more info.
About Us
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and current Broadwater families. We work with the school and local community to raise funds for additional school resources and also organise social activities throughout the school year. We are a friendly team of parents and guardians who want to make a positive contribution to school life.
Current core committee 2024/25:
Chairperson: VACANT 24/25
Treasurer: Jo Rogerson
Secretary: VACANT 24/25
Uniform: Claudia Goodridge / Kath Steele
Social Secretary: VACANT
Please contact us if you are interested in helping on the committee and want to contribute in any way – the committee always needs more help. The Chairperson and Secretary positions are now vacant, anyone interested in taking these on please get in touch. Secondary school PTA activities are far less than at Junior school so please have a think about getting involved.
Contact email: friends@broadwater.surrey.sch.uk (this address is checked on a regular basis, but please allow a few days for a response)
Our communications are made through school emails. Look out for our newsletters and emails outlining upcoming events and detailing how we are spending the funds raised. Recent projects and funding have included the re-development of the Courtyard with much improved planting & seating; Challenge Week activities; transport for Y7/8 theatre trip; purchase of new sound equipment for the drama dept/school hall; new shed for the bee keeping project.
Second-hand uniform
One of our main jobs is collecting and selling second-hand uniform. However, with a new uniform introduced in Sept 2022 there is limited supplies of new uniform. We do however still have the old blue PE kit which is available to the older students. We stock logo-ed items only (blazers, school skirts, jumpers, PE short-sleeved tops, PE rugby tops, PE skorts and shorts, blue socks) but generally no white shirts or black school trousers. If you have uniform to donate, please drop it off at Reception in a bag labelled Uniform - Friends of Broadwater School.
All items are in fair to good condition with prices available on request (ranging from £3 to £10 per item). Payment is via online bank transfer.
If you have any uniform requests, please send us an email with details of sizes required and your child’s name and form – friends@broadwater.surrey.sch.uk. We also have a WhatsApp group for second hand uniform. Please click HERE to be added to the group.
THE COURTYARD – Created by Friends of BW and opened in September 2023
The courtyard area is in the heart of the school, it is outside the hall and surrounded by various class rooms. The Friends applied for a grant from Godalming Town Council and were lucky to be awarded £109k. Crowdfunding raised an additional £6k and the Friends contributed a further £5k towards the project. We hope the students and school community benefit from this rejuvenated space for many years, it is planted with trees and grasses and provides more seating for students.
Gardening maintenance of The Courtyard – we are always looking for volunteers to help with ongoing maintenance of this newly created space. The grasses need cutting once a year and general weeding and tidying a few times throughout the year. Any volunteers to lead this or help please get in touch – friends@broadwater.surrey.sch.uk. The team who created the garden will be leaving Broadwater school soon and we need to ensure that this space continues to be cared for.

Cash Prize Raffles
This has proved to be a successful fundraiser, introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic as we could not host our usual raffles at school events. All entrants have a chance to win the top prize of £100 or two further prizes of £50. Keep an eye out for emails announcing the next raffle.
Summer Party
We held the first summer party in 2022 and this takes place at the school, ideally outside in the Courtyard or in the school hall with live music and a bar. The 2024 summer party took place on FRI 28 JUNE and was a great success.
We also run the refreshments at the schools’ Christmas Concert, Surrey Festival of Musical Theatre, Summer Production and have regular textile collections to raise additional funds.
