King’s College London Medicine and Dentistry Lecture Series 2025 (for students who meet eligibility criteria – see below)
This programme is for students across the UK in Year 11, 12, and 13 interested in becoming a doctor or dentist.
Over the course of the programme students will hear from a wide variety of speakers to help build their understanding of the opportunities and challenges of being a doctor and dentist, as well as guidance on the application process. Last year’s lectures included the following:
- Medical and dental specialties: cardiology, oral surgery, renal transplant, and many more!
- Q&A’s each week with current medical and dental students.
- Support with the application process: UCAT, personal statements, and interviews.
- Q&A with admissions colleagues in the school of medicine at KCL, UCL, St George’s, Queen Mary, Brunel, and Imperial.
Most importantly participants will become part of a community of like-minded students all interested in applying to medicine and dentistry and finding out what being a doctor and dentist really entails!
Lectures will be held on Tuesday evenings between 6:00 – 7:30pm. Our first lecture will be on Tuesday 4th February.

What to Expect from the Programme
Over the course of the lecture series, you will hear from a variety of guest speakers from different specialties in medicine and dentistry. You will also learn about the application process with sessions on the UCAT, personal statements, and interview.
The lecture series is your one-stop-shop on your journey to making a successful application to medicine or dentistry!
The deadline to complete this form is Friday 10th January at 2:00pm. You only need to apply to the programme once. If accepted, you will be invited to the entire programme of lectures. Our first lecture will take place on Tuesday 4th February. Those who come to 50% of our core live lectures will receive a certificate of participation.
Programme Eligibility
Before starting your application, please ensure that you are eligible for the programme.
Core eligibility criteria:
- In Year 11, 12, or 13 as of September 2024, or on a gap year prior to applying to university. Alternatively, if you are a mature student you are currently taking an Access to Higher Education course.
- Are currently attending (or most recently studied at) a state school (non-fee paying). If this school is non-selective you are automatically eligible to take part in the programme. If the school is selective you must meet one other widening participation criteria (see below).
Widening Participation Criteria:
- First-generation entering higher education (university).
- Currently (or in the last six years) receiving free school meals.
- Are one of our priority groups.
- Are living in a postcode that meets any of the following criteria (ACORN quintile 4-5, IMD quintile 1-2, POLAR4 quintile 1-2, TUNDRA quintile 1-2).

Finance Insights Placement Scheme- Paid 12-month placement with One NHS Finance
This is an opportunity for young people from low-income families to take part in a paid 12-month placement scheme within the finance department of an NHS organisation within their region. The initiative aims to support young people aged 18+ from low-income families, and applicants interested must meet the following criteria:
-Attending state school or college, or have done within the past two years,
-Minimum Grade C / 4 in GCSE Maths is desirable but not essential,
-Not planning on attending university, and
-Occupation of the main household earner is categorised as a lower socio-economic background OR have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the previous six years

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a personal and social development programme for 15–17 year olds. Established in 2011, the programme aims to build a more cohesive, mobile and engaged society.
